Unseen Dangers Explained: Magic, Evil Eye, and Jinn Possession from Islamic Sources – Part 3

Unseen Dangers Explained – Part 3: How Magic Works and Its Types

🌪️ 11. How Is Black Magic Performed?

Magic is essentially spoken or written words intended to harm. A practitioner of black magic (a sorcerer) usually channels this harmful energy into a physical substance—such as writing on paper, wood, stone, fabric, or by blowing over a liquid or knotted string, or writing on a surface with a dissolvable substance and collecting the residue.

This substance is then linked to the targeted person in one of several ways:

  • Directly: added to food or drink, burned as incense, etc.
  • Indirectly: sprinkled in places the victim walks or frequents.
  • Symbolically: attached to a belonging of the person (clothing, jewelry, photos, shoes…).

In other cases, the sorcerer may recite magical words near the victim or speak them aloud toward them. (We seek refuge in Allah from this evil.)

😈 12. How Do Devils Participate in Magic?

Allah has set boundaries between the worlds of humans and jinn. Normally, jinn can only whisper evil suggestions. Allah says:
“Then Satan whispered to them…” [Al-A‘raf: 20].

But magic opens a spiritual gateway, allowing devils to invade a person’s body, cause psychological or physical harm, and even control them partially. This explains the severe, unnatural symptoms seen in some victims.

A helpful example: Magic is like rotting garbage. The devils are like insects drawn to the filth. The more spiritual filth there is (magic), the easier it becomes for devils to interfere.
