Effective Ways to Protect Yourself from Magic and Prevent Its Renewal

In a world filled with both good and evil, spiritual protection is essential for every Muslim who values their faith, safety, and home. Magic (sihr) is one of the most dangerous hidden weapons used by people with weak hearts, and Islam has warned against it while providing clear guidance on how to stay safe.

Here are some practical, experience-backed, and prophetic methods to protect yourself from being afflicted by magic—or from having it renewed after healing, by Allah’s permission:

1. Keep Righteous Company
   Surround yourself with pious, trustworthy people, and avoid associating with the corrupt, the suspicious, or those known for envy and malice.
2. Protect Your Personal Belongings
   Keep your clothes, hair, bathroom items, and personal effects safe, so they don’t fall into the wrong hands and get used in harmful rituals.
3. Be Cautious with Domestic Helpers or Close Contacts
   Many magic cases are carried out by people who have easy access to the home. Stay alert and don’t give blind trust to anyone.
4. Avoid Provoking Envy
   Don’t constantly display your blessings before people whose hearts you don’t know. Envy can drive some to use magic to harm you.
5. The Sunnah of Seven Dates in the Morning
   The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever eats seven Ajwa dates in the morning will not be harmed by poison or magic that day.” (Bukhari & Muslim)
6. Maintain Morning and Evening Remembrances (Adhkar)
   These are a powerful shield against magic, the evil eye, and all forms of harm.
7. Keep Your Home Clean, Especially Neglected Corners
   These spots could be used to hide harmful magical objects without your knowledge.
8. Fill Your Home with the Mention of Allah
   Especially by reciting Surah Al-Baqarah; it was reported that devils flee from a house where it is recited. Aim to read it at least once every three days.
9. Be Careful with Food and Drink from Untrusted Sources
   Don’t consume anything unless you are completely sure of its safety and the good intentions of the one offering it—even if they are a relative.
10. Do Not Harm Domestic Animals
    Some jinn inhabit their bodies or take their forms; harming them could lead to revenge through magic or possession.
