Episode 5: Hidden Mechanisms and Servants of Black Magic

18. How does a sorcerer hide a cursed effect (Magic of Effect)?
A wicked magician often seeks to conceal the materials of a spell, placing them in tightly sealed containers such as plastic bags, boxes, or bottles. Many such spells are hidden in the following ways:

1. Buried in the ground: especially in graves, deserts, or abandoned remote areas.
2. Thrown into water: wells, rivers, seas, or drainage channels.
3. Hidden in trees: hanging from forest trees or placed on branches.
4. Concealed in abandoned places: such as deserted houses or wastelands.
5. Near sources of fire: ovens, furnaces, or incineration sites.

19. What is a “knot” in black magic?
A “knot” represents a form of magical effect concentrated on specific parts of the body. It is narrated: “Whoever ties a knot and blows into it, he has performed magic, and whoever performs magic has committed shirk” [Weak]. (shirk means disbelief)

The sorcerer may tie threads while reciting spells, mark them on paper over a picture of the victim, embed them in the magical work as “locks,” or place them at certain points to concentrate the harmful effect. These knots are centers of magical disruption, causing physical, emotional, or spiritual disturbances. May Allah protect us. Breaking these knots is a sign of nullifying the magic, by Allah’s permission.

20. How to nullify a discovered spell?
The safest way to nullify a spell is destruction, which is safer than burning. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), upon discovering magic in the well of Dhi Arwan, did not burn it but dismantled it. Recommended steps:

1. Seek Allah’s help and recite protective Qur’an verses and supplications continuously during the process.
2. Protect your hands with thick gloves or any barrier—some materials may be impure or harmful, including blood, filth, or sharp objects.
3. Use tools if necessary, like tweezers, scissors, or knives.
4. Prepare a vessel with water, preferably infused with Qur’anic recitation.
5. Remove any organic substances or liquids and place them in the water.
6. Cut threads or cords and immerse them in the water.
7. Disassemble written papers and erase the inscriptions using water.
8. If there is a human image, do not destroy it; just erase any writings or remove pins carefully.
9. Leave the water and immersed materials for several hours or days depending on the strength of the magic.
10. Dispose of the water and ruined materials in a remote place.
11. Only after all writings are erased and pins removed can the paper or image be safely destroyed.
12. If unable, seek a qualified, pious ruqyah practitioner to handle the process.

21. What is a “servant of magic”?
The servant of magic is a jinn or devil who is sent to harm the victim and assist the sorcerer in achieving the spell’s goal. Some do this willingly out of hatred for humans; others may be coerced by stronger devils serving the magician.

22. Does magic work by itself or does it require devils?
Firstly, magic can never harm except by Allah’s permission: “And they could not harm anyone except by Allah’s permission” [Al-Baqarah:102].

Theoretically, magic exists independently and may cause harm without jinn, similar to the evil eye. For example, magic cast on the Prophet (SAW) caused him some effect, although no devil directly influenced him.

Practically, magic creates an opportunity for jinn to act and harm the victim. The magician uses them to intensify the effect, much like filthy garbage attracts harmful insects: theoretically, both are harmful alone, but practically, the harm is magnified.
