Episode 7: Recognizing and Diagnosing Magic
27. What are the common symptoms of being affected by magic?
Symptoms vary depending on the type and strength of the magic. Some people may experience only a few signs, while others may have several. Mild magic may show subtle signs, whereas strong magic can cause more obvious effects. Common symptoms include:
- Unexplained aches, numbness, or tingling in parts of the body
- Physical discomfort without a medical cause
- Heart palpitations
- Sudden feelings of sadness, depression, or crying without reason
- Persistent fatigue or lack of energy
- Desire for isolation or being alone
- Difficulty sleeping at night
- Disturbing dreams or nightmares
- Sudden feelings of love or dislike toward certain people
- Inclination toward sins and avoidance of good deeds
- Forgetfulness and mental distraction
- Negative thoughts or pessimism
- Difficulties in work, studies, relationships, or marriage
28. How can we distinguish between ordinary problems and problems caused by magic?
Not every difficulty in life is caused by magic. Most problems have clear reasons or circumstances. Magic, however, often causes sudden issues without any logical cause.
For example:
- A wife who gradually dislikes her husband due to repeated mistreatment has a problem with a clear cause.
- But if a woman suddenly begins to feel hatred toward a husband she previously loved, with no reason or change in behavior, magic may be suspected.
The key difference is that ordinary problems develop over time and have a clear cause, while magic can cause abrupt changes that seem inexplicable.
29. How is magic diagnosed?
The process usually begins when the affected person notices unusual symptoms in their body, mind, sleep, or interactions with others, with no clear medical reason. They then visit a qualified Ruqyah practitioner for guidance.
Step-by-step diagnosis includes:
- The practitioner asks about symptoms and their development to make an initial assessment.
- Medical causes are ruled out first to ensure the problem is not due to illness.
- The practitioner may ask about specific events, such as unusual foods consumed, the presence of new people at home, or missing personal items, to identify potential sources of magic.
- Initial exposure to Qur’anic verses may be performed. If the affected person experiences discomfort, crying, pain, or other reactions, this can indicate the presence of magic.
- Certain verses may be tested depending on the type of magic. For instance, someone affected by marital separation magic may feel a strong reaction when hearing verses about marital relations, while someone affected by other types of magic may respond to different verses.
Diagnosis is a careful process based on:
- Observing reactions to the Qur’an
- Listening to the patient’s description of symptoms
- Sometimes using relevant dreams (interpreted with care) to assist in identifying the issue
With patience, expertise, and time, the practitioner can determine the presence and type of magic and plan the proper Ruqyah treatment, in shaa’ Allah.
